Everett’s Oldest Vacuum Store
Everett Vacuum is located in one of the oldest structures remaining on Broadway, an historic house dating from 1896. In 1944 Ted Hagen moved both his vacuums and his family into the the house that had been expanded to include a showroom and work area by the previous owner.
Ted had been so successfull selling Compact brand vacuum cleaners door-to-door that he needed a storefront to sell the trade-ins he was accumulating.
The space needed for storing and repairing the used vacuums continued to grow and by 1963, shortly after Ted’s son Dan took over the store, the family was forced to make their home elsewhere.
By 1998 Dan Hagen was ready to retire and the most promising person to take over the business was someone who had been working at the shop since he was 16 years old.
Laurie Steinberg and his wife Mary are only the third owners in the almost 60 years since Everett Vacuum started. Laurie has been working at the Everett location for nearly 40 years.
